Coronavirus LIVE Updates: India Reports 39,742 New Cases, 535 Deaths In Last 24 Hours

India Coronavirus Updates: The number of active cases in India increased to 4,08,977 Saturday (File)

New Delhi:

India on Sunday reported 39,742 new COVID-19 cases and 535 related deaths in the last 24 hours. Currently, there are 4,08,212 active cases. So far, 43.31 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive. As many as 51,18,210 were vaccinated in the last 24 hours.

The total recoveries from the disease increased to 3,05,43,138 with 39,972 patients having recovered during the last 24 hours. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.36 per cent.

On Saturday, the country added 39,097 cases of coronavirus over a 24-hour period, which was 10.6% higher than Friday. The country had reported 546 deaths on Saturday.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Puducherry Reports 104 New COVID-19 Cases
Puducherry added 104 fresh cases of COVID-19 during the last 24 hours ending 10 am on Sunday raising the overall caseload to 1,20,331. The new cases were identified at the end of examination of 5950 samples. Two more persons succumbed to the viral infection during the same period raising the toll to 1,789, a bulletin showed.

COVID-19 India News: Kerala Vaccinates Over 4.5 lakh On Saturday, Highest In A Day
Kerala recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 vaccination with over 4.5 lakh people vaccinated on Saturday, Health Minister Veena George said, according to news agency ANI. With this, more than 16 lakh have been given the jab till now this week alone. “By vaccinating 4,53,339 people on Saturday, Kerala has shown it can vaccinate more than four lakh people per day and that it was the best state where vaccination was concerned,” Ms George said in a release.

Only about 2 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccines are in stock in the state, including the 38,860 doses of vaccines that arrived on Saturday. The state does not have enough stock to conduct vaccination on Sunday, she said. “If the Centre does not allot vaccines on Sunday, the ongoing vaccination drive in the state would be affected,” she said.

COVID-19 India News: 347 New Cases In Maharashtra’s Thane, 14 More Deaths
Thane has reported 347 new cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,42,587, an official said on Sunday, according to news agency PTI. Besides these new cases recorded on Saturday, the virus also claimed the lives of 14 more people, which pushed the death count in the district to 10,969. The COVID-19 mortality rate in Thane is 2.02 per cent, he added. In neighbouring Palghar district, the COVID-19 case count has gone up to 1,28,9150, while the death count has reached 3,108, another official said.

5 cases of “Kappa” variant detected in Gujarat
